Flower Essence Energy Aromatherapy

The Client

Flower Essence Energy, internationally respected brand in the field of aromatherapy, particularly in the creation of flower essences.

Founder, Maggie Smith has devoted her life to expanding her knowledge of flower essence therapy and aromatherapy and has attended the World Conferences of Flower Essences in Findhorn, Scotland, and Brazil.

The Brief

Design a logo, product labels, and a website for a new product line from Flower Essence Energy.

This business was established in 1993 by Maggie Smith, an advanced energy healer, aromatherapist, flower essence practitioner, teacher, and lecturer. Their products are typically found in health stores, spas, and hospice facilities. They are also available online.

The Requirements

Add value and introduce aromatherapy into the flower essence product line. Consult with and satisfy two owners with different roles in the company. Retain current hosting service.

Use our in-depth knowledge of the brand gained by creating their packaging and marketing collateral for the past 10-years to create a new product line and website.

The Solution

Site Design: Due to budget restrictions, we selected the WordPress platform and the Divi Builder as the best option for this client’s website. With Divi’s Visual Builder component, I was able to begin designing without wireframing, which reduced our cost to the client.

Hosting and E-Commerce Shopping Cart: We do not as a general rule build a website that we don’t host with a trusted partner. However, the client had a hosting and development partner she was happy with and insisted on retaining his services for this site. Because of our relationship with the client, we agreed to accept the project. By far, the biggest issue we had with this site build was the fact that the host/development partner would not support Woo Commerce and wanted to build the shopping cart to match the cart on the client’s current website. We went back and forth, with us designing the look of the shop and adding all the graphics, while he developed shortcodes for us to add to the products. It all worked out in the end, but the process was not efficient and I’m not as happy with the results as I would have been with the Woo Commerce solution. The keyword on this project was “compromise.”

The hosting partner continues to maintain the site and the owners continue to update the site.

Short Version of the Process: Because we have worked with Flower Essence Energy for so many years, we did not perform Discovery prior to beginning the process of developing the product line or the website. Here is a brief description of our abbreviated process for this project.

1. Video conference with owners to discuss their thoughts and ideas

2. Design logo presenting three examples for consideration.

3. Design labels for 1 oz and 2 oz bottles

4. Prepare camera-ready labels for 30 products

5. Begin discussions relating to new website Design

6. Interface with hosting partner and shopping cart developer

7. Review and launch the Flower Essence Aromatherapy website.
